Autumn 2001. A group of students spending time together in the Sereikiškių park, Užupis, Vinius Academy of Arts, a rented flat in Jogailos street. The parties were loud and wild, sometimes even getting a knock on the door by the police. Most of the group would miss the class the next day, and why not? The nights were fun, filled with music, philosophical conversations about the meaning of life and, of course, jam sessions! During one of such evenings the future band members Laurita, Ineta and Eglė started singing sutartinės (traditional Lithuanian multipart songs), one of which was “Alaus alaus”. Myself, while having a wine-induced catharsis, quickly found the right guitar chords. You could say that was the night when I arranged my first Lithuanian folk song which was an inspiration for the future band of Žalvarinis. This version of “Alaus alaus” is re-mixed and re-mastered in 2018. The 2005 version can be found in the “Žalio vario” album.
